Lesson length is approximately 45 minutes, or 50 minutes when optional nasal spray content is included.

Participants who successfully complete the course receive an American Red Cross certificate valid for 2 years.

Core Skill

Auto-Injector Administration

Students practice using an epinephrine auto-injector training device, from verifying the medication to noting the time given.

Hands-On Auto-Injector Required Skill
  • Verify the medication properly
  • Locate the outside middle of the thigh
  • Administer and note the time correctly
Optional Skill

Nasal Spray Administration

When included, students also practice administering epinephrine using a nasal spray training device.

Optional Nasal Spray +5 Minutes
  • Hold the device correctly
  • Insert the nozzle properly
  • Deliver the dose and note the time

  • Press the plunger firmly to release the dose
  • Note the time and watch for changes in condition
